An Indian touristā€™s tragic death during a rafting accident last week does not have too many locals surprised since the site of his death is popularly believed to be haunted.

The myths of the local community in Gianyar Provinceā€™s Ayung River holds that the area is inhabited by the figure of a beautiful woman dressed as a bride. This area divides communities between Gianyar and Badung regencies.

One rafting guide who claims to have over 20 years of experience as a guide is super superstitious and says couples and those who are married are more accident prone on the river.

I Wayan Sukianten, PR for Bali Adventure, the company the ill-fated tourist used, says there are a number spots along the river that present a physical danger and an “unseen” danger. The tour company even built shrines and arranged offerings along the river to address that.
