As if the roads in Bali weren’t crazy enough with all the traffic, Australian Andrew Marcus Quartes reportedly drove down Jl. Petitengent wreaking havoc on Friday, knocking down three motorbikes in the process.

“Based on several witness accounts, Quartes was driving recklessly. He was almost beaten by people in the area, but was secured by the police, who took him to the police precinct,” North Kuta Police chief Ronny Riantoko Eppang said, as quoted by the Jakarta Post.

Lucky for him, Quartes got to walk away on Saturday after paying Rp 3 million to compensate for the damage he did.

The motorbikes were parked in front of Petitenget Restaurant in North Kuta, Badung, Bali. After running them down with his red Jeep, Quartes did not initially stop and was chased by Philpus Nogongo Buma, the owner of the three bikes. Quartes was eventually stopped in front of Petitenget Temple, where he fought with Buma before police arrived at the scene.

Quartes is from Sydney and is on holiday in Bali.
